Salje society

The books of the Swedish author Sven Edvin Salje (1914–1998) dramatically describe Sweden’s recent transition from a rural society. The countryside and its conditions still affect our behaviour and moral, and for many people it represents a secret dream. Salje’s books take us to our ancestors’ fascinating world, where we get many new insights. His purely historic dramas also concern the whole earth and the society we live in today, and they give us a close relationship to their characters – all in a true historic framework. With his special art of phrasing, Salje easily moves us into a totally different world.

The most widely known books by Salje is probably the pentalogy about the Loväng family.

Today we are about 540 members and the society is one of the largest literary societies in Sweden.
